There was no lasting damage to the laptop, but it was hot enough to 
singe my (admittedly sensitive) fingertips coming out.  In all cases the 
laptop battery died before thermal protection killed things.  Or at 
least the battery was always dead coming out.

I can't imagine the sustaned heat was good for the battery either.

That said, *other* stuff in the bag, however, did not fare so well.  
Melted food (chocolate!) making huge messes, adhesive things that 
softened and slipped, making unsightly trails of goo, and so forth.  
Nothing "permanent" but a major PITA nonetheless.
