There is no way around having some compatibility version, either in the same or other rpm, at least for a short period of time, because gcc needs libmpfr and libmpfr needs to be built with gcc, so if you upgrade incompatibly libmpfr, you will build that package, but once it is in the buildroots, gcc will not install anymore and so nothing that needs gcc to build will succeed building.
