If needed to keep them from orphaning, yes; but I cannot promise any
really active maintenance. The best I can promise is that I will *try*
to keep them up to date with upstream; any bugs will likely go unfixed
(unless included in upstream update, OFC).

This sounds a lot like what the Stewardship SIG is aiming for. Feel free to apply for membership if you're interested in sharing the maintenance burden with like-minded, responsible packagers, until a permanent maintainer can be found for these packages.
