Drop the GCC dependency please!

Could you please drop the dependency on GCC or revert the change? I don't want have GCC on my system. I have never needed it so far and I can't imagine I would need it because of this change.

gcc so something might break due to it (but not expected). Don't hesitate to
open a bug in that case.
