I believe you can do this from gnome-control-center if and only if you first (a) create another admin (wheel) user and log in as that user, or (b) set a root password, create a new non-admin user, and log in as that user.

It's designed to not allow removing the only admin account, and I'm not sure if it allows you to remove your own admin status.
