Yes you are right. It will not provide java, nor java-devel. Nor it will provide java-openjdk, java
-devel-openjdk and similar.
But it will provide versioned provides - java-9, java-devel-9, java-9-openjdk and similarly...
As for alternatives, the package will be integrate in classical schema we provide, so you will be
able to change it via alternatives --config java/javac/...
For automode the priority will be 1, and of debug subpackages 0. so your statement about prioritise
over OpenJDK8 eshould (must!) remain true.
