Indeed, this looks like a reasonable solution.
Is %configure only for auto-tooled configure?
Pretty much, the ./configure script must be sufficiently compatible.
It could cause FTBFS otherwise.
It's something that has to be applied to the SPEC file anyway, so it's
not something that involves a global switch causing widespread breakage.
