In fact it does, yes. I had found the answer meanwhile (and just came
back to report), but thanks anyways!

Just for the record: several common packages in TeXlive 2016 apparently
are not ready for LuaTeX 0.85 and later yet, most notably fancyhdr. So
there's nothing our TeX packager could have done differently.

Only half related to that (related to TeXlive 2016, not LuaTeX): KOMA
classes in TeXlive pulled the plug on old style font commands (\bf, \it
etc.). This may break documentation builds, too. For now the class
option "enabledeprecatedfontcommands" can serve as a band-aid until
upstream updates their doc sources.
