What a wonderful thing

Except on nights of exceptional clarity and near-zero humidity, if you shine a green laser pointer into the sky, you can follow the beam hundreds of meters up.Green laser pointers are significantly brighter (about 60 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. Just about everyone has a red laser pointer, but we're pretty sure you want to own the very best - and doing it with a green beam laser is the way to go.

Green lasers generate green light from infrared light. Ideally, the device should be designed and manufactured to confine the infrared light within the green laser pointer housing.NIST Laser Safety Officer Joshua Hadler designed the measurement test bed.The system consists of a laser power meter and two optical filters to quantify the emissions of different wavelengths of visible and infrared light. The power meter and filters were calibrated at NIST. Lens holders ensure repeatable laser alignment, and an adjustable aperture contains the laser light around the output end of the laser.

So inside of a 532nm DPSS laser is a diode of the wrong color and several crystals. This is actually a very inefficient way of producing a laser beam as there is significant power loss. As the 808nm infrared laser is subjected to a Nd:YAG laced crystal and into a KTP crystal for frequency doubling, there is around 25%-35% energy loss.
Several laser experts say the enforcement of regulations is already insufficient and ineffective. "It's a whole can of worms," Dr. Goldwasser said, recalling that he recently received a 100-milliwatt laser as a gift from Wicked Lasers.
