I'd be happy to sponsor you. I'll follow up with some details in the review ticket. Reviewing other people's packages is the best way to learn. You'll probably get some things wrong in the beginning, everybody does. But then the submitter of the package respond, and both parties learn something in the process. So doing a few reviews of other packages is a requirement for new packagers.
