While I quite like the app when it's working, I've had no end of trouble with it recognizing my CR-Writer! And the strange things is that it used to work, then misteriously (maybe after an update that modified some permissions), it stops working. For example, now I have a system, FC3+updates, that has a Plextor PX-W1210A. Now, this system used to work just fine IIRC with FC2, but it stopped recognizing the burner at a certain point. I've upgraded it to FC3test3, nothing. Then I've updated it to FC3, again nothing. Then I've applied all the latest updates, nothing! And all this after running K3bsetup, of course. Right now the situation is as follows: -- if run as a regular user, k3b sees my burner as a regular CDROM, so it list it as a Reader. Obviously I can't burn :) No amount of upgrading/updating/k3bsetup fixed that problem. -- if I run it as root, it sees the burner as a burner. What gives? This is driving me *INSANE*. A similar story happend on another box of mine (this time with a HL-DT-ST GCE-8525B drive): -- installed FC3test3, it worked -- after a while it stopped seeing the burner -- upgraded to FC3, updated, k3bsetup, now it sees it I can not describe how !@#$%^ frustrating this experience is. I really think this needs fixing. Burning CDs is a *important* desktop activity on a modern desktop. I'm an experienced Linux hardcore guy (been using it exclusively since 96), and this stuff simply gets the better of me. I can't imagine how a normal person would react to this. -- Dimi.
