The e-mail is typically sent on the day voting opens, which is when I vote. Since there was no such e-mail I did not [get a chance to] vote.
An alternative would be a calendar alert. The official calendar[1] is too polluted with events to be useful. If it had single day events for "Start" and "End" instead of a range I would subscribe to it.
