seeing plenty of said messages in syslog and no clue where they come
from:

Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST netcf-transaction.sh: Running start: No pending transaction to rollback
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error
Jun 26 11:27:18 HOST rngd: read error

Comes during boot, preceeded by lm_sensors,avahismartd. Any idea what
to look at? No visible malfunction

i suggest package maintainers should regulary grep their own syslogs for the 3 words "error", "warning" and "failed" to save tons of bugreports all over the years
