It is not really technical.  Generic is often used in other contexts by "normal" people:  Ex: Generic drugs which means non branded.

 - "standard" for the
ordinary user means "not specialized so likely the best decision for me"

Exactly the message Fedora doesn't want to send to its users.  Thanks for confirming.
