All you need is to create /etc/issue with \S sequences, for example: \S{PRETTY_NAME} \S{HOME_URL} Kernel \r on an \m (\l) .. so /etc/issue does not have to be maintained within packages like fedora-release-$PRODUCT or so. It would be really really nice have only *one* file (/etc/os-release) that contains operating system identification data. The mess like /etc/fedora-release and /etc/redhat-release should be deprecated.
