I'd go into a different direction: The fact, yum had such a protection, has prevented users from going through the learning curve of having to experience such incidents.
That said, yum's protection mechanims to me is a fuse, like the electrical fuse in your house, which you'll hardly notice and are likely to consider superflous, until you one day realize it already has safed your life multiple times.
