Yes, yum-cron has been hated by Seth for years, but there was still this stubborn community of its users. Actually, when doing just mailing about available updates (yum check-update instead of yum upgrade -y) it is not that dangerous. Also, I guess on server subscribed only to the RHEL proper (which has a bit better QA than Fedora) it shouldn't be that bad. In the end many of us do yum upgrade -y, right?
