A more sensible option would be to better tie NetworkManager into firewalld.
When you make the first connection for any network device the user must be
prompted for the firewall zone you wish to tie to the connection. Today, all
connections get mapped to the Default zone, but if prompted, and you wanted to
make the "home" zone essentially open then this would solve the OP's Change request.
