The kernel that boots up anaconda is apparently OK. The kernel anaconda installs is not.

The installer uses the i586 kernel, not the i686 kernel. So not exactly
Cool, thanks... I'll try shoe-horning in a i586 kernel into VirtualPC to see if that works. If so, that's certainly much easier than having to build a custom non-4g4g kernel.
