In a community of volunteers there are two ways to treat someone's work

a) tell him/her, his/her work matters and push him/her to improve where
you think it should be improved (eventually by getting your hands dirty

b) tell him/her that his/her work sucks but he/she is not following what

I do not believe you grow a nice and healthy community by doing the
second and your last email was, imho, really oriented to the option b.
Please be careful with the wording you use, that's also what's implied
by "be nice to each other".
