Lock screen does not work for root in gnome

Hi,

I discovered that xscreensaver and lock screen does not work in gnome if
the current user is "root".
Is this a bug or a "feature" ?
And another question, is there an options to change the unlock prompt from
xscreensaver ? The default one is UGLY, and does not fit in Gnome desktop.
