Well, I'm the maintainer of bamf-qt, same reason as Adam's - my try to package Unity-2d before they decided to get rid of QML based one and now, finally, decided to go back to the QML path ;-). So we will see if we could continue with the effort with Unity-next. And we can always revive it later in case we will need it.
