update-smart-drivedb
smartctl -t long /dev/sda
<wait 20 minutes if system is idle; longer if active>
smartctl -x /dev/sda

Report that smartctl along with dmesg.

Weird. 15 hours for an SSD offline data collection? On my 830 this figure is 1020 seconds, same as the extended self-test.
