end game is both libreoffice and apache openoffice available in the
repos and parallel installable, so our users and media maintainers
can decide which, if either they wish to use or ship.

And from the looks of it libreoffice has better license and more
active contributor base...
You're welcome to choose libreoffice for your needs.
As well as starting releasing Gnome spin with Apache office as the
default office suit shipped in that spin?
If you convince the owners of that spin/media to do so, sure.

I see I cannot maintain a spin in the distribution identical to Gnome but with Apache office instead of libreoffice.
