To me seems grub2 bugs and I see more 2 bugs, 1- If have grub with some custom items, I don't know exactly what, I got for example: background_image -m stretch /usr/share/backgrounds/verne/default/normalish/verne.png upgrade boot entry miss at least definition of root so I have to add set root='(hd0,msdos1)' to upgrade boot entry. 2- If I put load_video on upgrade boot entry , preupgrade boots with a blank screen and I don't see any graphic, is a video problem. (I read some bug block about this) Hope that can help something. ah and for recover a fail upgrade system , I got many tips here: http://fedorasolved.org/Members/fenris02/post_upgrade_cleanup but be careful not all of document is correct and is a little old.
