Implementing a per-model blacklist isn't technically difficult. The problem is we don't know for sure exactly which Thinkpads are broken and which aren't, and it'd be very difficult to compile and maintain an accurate list (there are a lot of Thinkpad models, with all sorts of regional variations, and there may be some models for which there are different firmware revisions, some of which work and some of which don't).
