You just didn't like their answer. It's the GNOME developers who stopped replying. The KDE developers were willing to clarify their spec, but not to make incompatible changes with no practical benefits (such as renaming Movie to Animation in an identifier) nor to specify rendering (which is a non-goal of the spec), up to the most minute detail even (e.g. the position of the overlay on an icon), as the GNOME developers demanded (not "requested", or they wouldn't have run away when the KDE developers explained why they cannot make those changes).
