Just my 2c, I'm also of the opinion something lighter than mysql is more
appropriate for the desktop.

Why does this sound so familiar? I want to say I remember many e-mails to devel/users about problems with akonadi and MySQL a year or so ago and requests for KDE to switch to something lighter.
