9xxx is a pretty significant upgrade from 3ware, and it requires the use
of a complete new driver. Unfortunately 3ware hasn't been too smart in
writing this driver and they still use a lot of deprecated header files
in the driver compile. I haven't checked recently, but I'm not even
sure if the 9xxx driver has made kernel mainstream yet. I am still
working with 3ware to clean up their driver code a bit.
