Just to give it some more exposure (somewhat related):

getaddrinfo() should disregard link-local IPv6 addresses for 
AI_ADDRCONFIG purposes

I've also been filing bugs for software to use AI_ADDRCONFIG.  Most 
recent is for python: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699576

There are other workarounds for these issues (use a different DNS 
server), but it would be nice if the software helped out a bit too.
