That IOW and AFAICS means that we need a whitelist or a blacklist (or
both) in the long term anyway, as those that become bricks won't simply
vanish over night.

So why not start with that now? Or is the answer simply a lack of
resources/people interested to drive things forward?

Just curious. I have a Intel SSDSA2M080G2GC for a while now but was not
bold enough yet to give discard on Ext4 a try.
