So, is it time to replace the old unmaintained compat-readline5 which is 
kept only for licensing reasons with this now?

And would it make sense to try to replace readline with libedit systemwide, 
even? It feels quite silly to have multiple implementations of the exact 
same API for licensing reasons, and the libedit license should be compatible 
with everything.
