Rebooted by ctrl-alt-del, and tried with plain Gnome. No > dice either. Rebooted again, now running XFCE4. Same for me, also running XFCE. I also created a new/clean user to see if there was a problem with my gnome config, but the problem exists there as well. I searched for bugs, but didn't find anything.
