I saw this in normal usage (no kvm and the like), when having UMTS. It
seems, when the connection was broken, yum couldn't restart it and timed
out like this. But with a recent version, I was able to CTRL+C and it
just switched the server and restarted the connection at the same point,
I killed it before.

Or what do you mean with 'kill yum'? 'kill the connection' and let it
choose another server works fine here.
