I'm running 3.0.1 right now, I run it pretty hard on some large accounts and with a variety of mail servers (dovecot for one). I haven't seen anything like this bug, on any machines I run. I think it's super-helpful for you to point out potentially really horrible bugs like this, and I applaud that. But, even though I'm guessing every tbird 3.0.01 user you've spoken to you has told you it's eaten their mail, it doesn't seem to have happened here and I would bet there are other users for whom it's working great.
