Not really. If you're running an old version of gimp, you can restart
the process by logging out and logging back in, you don't have to
reboot. PackageKit splits these up into about 5 categories, being:

1. application
2. session
3. system
4. security-session
5. security-system

Fedora 10 and 11 support only 2,3, rawhide supports only 2,4,5 (as
there is no bohdi metadata for each update) but Fedora 12 will support
2,3,4,5.
