nomodeset did the trick. I can now boot and nothing crashes.

Would be nice if modesetting worked though.

I get 1280x1024 resolution in X now, despite configuring 1400x1050 in
s-c-d, so everything is stretched wide. Didn't have this problem with
Fedora 10. Makes looking at photos a bit worrying :)
