About the same behaviour , there's also the problem described in bug

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=126667 , which happens when one of the mirrors is not in synch and you have the bad luck of up2date choosing to use the bad mirror to download the packages.
