If you're talking about KitchenSync, the problem is that the OpenSync project promised that 0.40 would be ready in time for KDE 4.0 (!) (the ORIGINAL KDE 4.0 schedule, even without the slips!). It's due to this wishful thinking by the OpenSync developers that KitchenSync is now broken.
