On many machines now, the power switch invokes a shutdown dialog, instead of simply powering the machine off with no warning--see the GNOME power-management applet's dialog. On my wife's Dell Dimension, I haven't even been able to locate a reset button--the only thing on the front panel available to press is the power button.
