Here's how this would work in the yum world:
1. if any package from @core (or any of their deps) are being upgraded
then run an lvm snapshot and store it/add it to grub
2. proceed with update
This isn't going to work very well if /usr for example is on its own
logical volume, since the default is everything in one volume I suspect
that this is a bit uncommon.
it's a backup mechanism - one size RARELY fits all.
