As an additional for battery savings, how about including the necessary
scripts/ACPI bits to enable laptop_mode?  The support is already
included in the kernel.  Or is it more of a "lets not automatically drop
the disk commit time to 10minutes without the user knowing?"

Definitely seems to add some battery life and keeps the system quite
responsive (since it isn't hitting the disk anywhere near as often.
