xblast can actually output sound through PulseAudio just fine. However, you
have to go to the sound settings, turn sound off, click OK, go back, turn
sound back to Waveout, click OK again, then exit the settings.
Looks like it needs to be fixed to recognize sound as being available.
Please file a bug.
