right now on my F10 system

xterm defaults to no blink
konsole defaults to no blink
aterm defaults to no blink
Eterm defaults to no blink
rxvt defaults to no blink

gnome-terminal defaults to blink

I do not think traditional terminal operation makes a strong argument
in the scope of this discussion in the light of the fact that other
terminal emulators with codebase lifetimes as long or longer than
gnome-terminal/libvte already default to no blink in F10.

If anything.. gnome-terminal is the odd man out and there is an
argument to be made to bring it into line with the common default
behaviour of other virtual terminals.
