The usual reason for fonts being removed from existing packages like
xorg is licensing audit failure.

Which is why unison developpers should use fontconfig (via pango, cairo
or something higher-level) if they need text/font support.

Using the legacy core font system results in applications blowing up
sooner or later.

You can use 'fixed'. It will probably be the last one to go. However as
long as unison depends on core fonts it may fail every other release.
Core font apps are highly susceptible to any font environment change,
and change happens.
