Well in that case, when the battery gets too low, you suspend.  Upon
resume, the transaction will finish.  (I've had this happen once)

suspend seems highly flaky, not sure if it is something to depend upon.


Not sure it is something you want to copy, but I've had Mac laptops refuse to start system updates because the battery was too low - and I think even cell phones do that too.
