Re: JPEG patent, removal from FC2?

I don't mind that jpg is dropped. png and svg are the way to go :) I know
gimp did not include gif for patent reasons so I wonder what they are going
to do now about jpeg.
btw is there work being done on a png successor like jpeg 2000 is for jpg?
