Is there a better way to turn on xinerama than to add +xinerama into the gdm.conf file? It gets overwritten every time gdm is upgraded. Is there a particularly good reason xinerama is off by default?

Or a reason gdm.conf isn't marked "noreplace"?

In the past the file format has changed in incompatible ways, I was told as the reason. Complain upstream if you want to change this decision. Get them to say "the config file will not change in incompatible ways".
