Fedora 36: Workstation blockers and priorities

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hey folks! Just wanted to sync up on the Fedora 36 Final process.
First, some key dates:

2022-04-05 (1400 UTC): Final freeze starts
2022-04-14: Go/No-Go meeting

We would want to have all known blockers addressed by 2022-04-11 at the
latest in order to have sufficient time for validation testing.

Any update that wants to go stable after 2022-04-05 1400 UTC will need
to be a fix for a blocker or FE bug, so if there are updates you folks
want included in Final that are *not* blocker/FE fixes, please ensure
they're submitted in good time. If there's an issue getting sufficient
karma for an update, please let us know on the test@ list or the QA
IRC/Matrix channel.

Quick note, I'm mostly on PTO from Saturday (April 2) to April 17. I
will be checking in periodically but won't be anywhere near as around
as I usually am. Please treat pings/pokes from the rest of my team with
as much priority as you do or don't usually treat pings/pokes from me.
:D coremodule (Geoffrey Marr) and Frantisek Zatloukal will be handling
blocker herding duties.

Here are the current proposed and accepted blocker/FE bugs that relate
to Workstation:

1. Printer setting: can't scroll media size list
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2063410
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/1704
MR: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/merge_requests/1268
Proposed Blocker
This one is a bit awkward because it could be an awkward problem for
someone, but the fix is quite intrusive. It'd be good to get more
opinions on whether it makes sense to backport this for release,
backport it *after* release, or leave it unfixed on 42.

2. Online accounts does not open a new pop up window to show account sync settings
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2064462
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/1651
MR: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/merge_requests/1272
Proposed Blocker
I have backported the fix for this and submitted an update, so there
should be not action required, I hope, as long as the update gets
sufficient karma and I remember to push it stable.

3. File chooser portal dialogs crash on X
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2068041
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4805
MR: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/4605
Proposed Blocker
I backported the proposed fix and created an update, though the
original reporter has reported that a problem still remains - an error
message "The folder contents could not be displayed - Operation was
cancelled" appears each time the dialog is opened. It'd be good if
someone could fix that.

4. Connections crashes on connection to an RDP server
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2068015
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/connections/-/issues/95
Accepted Blocker
Felipe indicated the backtrace is sufficient data to diagnose this, but
there doesn't appear to be a fix yet.

5. Overview search box input via input method is broken
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2062660
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2188
MR: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2353
Accepted Blocker
I have backported the fix for this and submitted an update, I'll try
and test it soon.

6. Workstation Live is frozen in a VM with QXL video driver
Fedora bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2063156
Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2201
Accepted Blocker
This is the one I'm most worried about, I guess, as it seems a bit hard
to pin down and there's no indication of a fix yet. Testing does seem
to indicate pretty clearly it's a real bug and likely in mutter,
though. If anyone can help try and figure this out ASAP it'd be great.

Thanks folks!
