I switched to fedora because I value free and open source software, and think it can be a nice alternative to windows and OSX. I'm very, very sensitive to what I perceive as threats to open source, and feel obligated to respond in kind. In other words, if I think I've seen a "windows just works" or similar comment, about all I hear out of that entire post is "windows and "just works" You could explain your entire position and I'd likely not hear it, hearing only "linux sucks, it'll never get anywhere, you should switch back to windows, join the herd" It's a poor excuse, I know, but I've had very, very bad experiences with windows users trying to get them interested in linux, so I'm not as helpful as I probably should be. If you require windows to do something in your work or home that linux can't do, I really can't argue, even though I usually have urge to do just that. What gets me are the "it's too hard to learn about why fedora doesn't have mp3 codecs, why can't it just install them" I'm one of those people who think a system should be as free of blobs as possible. If you're one of those people that think for linux to get anywhere you should be able to sit down at a computer, turn it on, do everything you want to do without having to learn anything, we'll have to agree to disagree. My only defense is, if I snap at you, i'm probably not snapping at you, but at the "ha ha ha, windows wins, linux has lost" that I hear when reading posts like that. I think some of the pressure on fedora might be solved when, or if, industries move away from mp3 and start using patent free codecs. It just makes business sense, what little I know about such things. You don't have to pay royalties for every device you make, and the file size is usually smaller and sounds better. As for hardware drivers, this is probably for the why people aren't switching to fedora thread, I'm on the side of linux here. I'm also blind, and am tired of seeing and hearing about, blind users on windows being gouged for the right to use their computers, so I'm aiming to fix this. I feel under a lot of pressure nearly constantly, and that doesn't improve my mood. I'm (I think) one of the only people filing bugs against ... well, anything with an accessibility issue, as well as writing in to the orca list, writing for opensource.com (something I'm very proud to do), keeping up with all the bug comments, maintaining a blind specific linux distro, it's a lot to do. So when I hear what I think is a "window sjust works" comment, it immediately brings to mind a bunch of people happily walking out of stores with their shiny new computers, not having to worry about a thing, while I'm over here filing bugs, trying to get blind people to switch (usually not having any luck), and trying not to snap at the people who use other OSes.
